Apollo.io AI Research for Personalized Outreach and Account Prioritization

Jeremy Hurley September 26, 2025

Apollo.io’s AI Power-Ups allow you to go beyond static filters and build a scoring layer directly inside your prospecting workflow. Instead of manually reviewing each account, you can set up AI-driven research to score companies on specific signals and then let workflows handle the sequencing.

What Apollo.io AI Research Does

The AI Power-Ups feature lets you write a research prompt - essentially a question you would ask a research analyst - and Apollo.io runs it against each account in your list. The output is a structured score or summary you can use to filter, sort, and trigger workflows.

One common use case is scoring accounts 1-5 on the likelihood that they are actively testing or evaluating a new product in your category. The AI pulls from publicly available signals and company data to return a score per account.

Setting Up Account Scoring with AI Power-Ups

To score accounts using AI research in Apollo.io:

  1. Navigate to your Company or Contact list view
  2. Open the AI Power-Ups panel
  3. Write a research prompt describing what you want to evaluate (e.g., “Is this company actively testing or evaluating [product category]? Score 1-5 where 5 is highest likelihood.”)
  4. Run the prompt across your filtered list
  5. Review results - Apollo.io returns a score and a short justification for each account

You can then sort by score and focus outreach on the highest-priority accounts first.

Using Scores in Workflows

Once accounts have AI scores, you can trigger automated workflows based on those scores:

  • Accounts scoring 4 or 5 can be automatically added to a high-priority sequence
  • Accounts scoring 2 or 3 can be routed to a nurture sequence
  • Accounts scoring 1 can be deprioritized or excluded from outreach

This creates a feedback loop where research informs targeting and targeting drives sequencing - without manual sorting.

Company-Level vs. Contact-Level Research

AI Power-Ups can run at both the company and contact levels:

  • Company-level: Score accounts on firmographic signals, market position, or recent news
  • Contact-level: Research individual contacts on role fit, seniority, or recent activity (like job changes or speaking engagements)

Running research at both levels gives you a more complete picture before a rep spends time on outreach.

Practical Tips

  • Start with a narrow, specific prompt. Broad questions return inconsistent scores.
  • Test your prompt on 10-15 accounts before running it across your full list. Check whether the scores align with your intuition.
  • Use the justification text in your outreach. If the AI identified a specific signal (e.g., a product announcement), that can become a relevant first line in your email.
  • Refresh scores periodically. Company situations change, and stale scores lead to misaligned outreach.

Apollo.io’s AI research layer is most effective when it is paired with tight ICP filters. Running AI scoring on a poorly targeted list will not improve results - but running it on a well-filtered list of high-fit accounts helps you prioritize where reps spend their time.
